At South of the Border MX Facility on Saturday Feb 18 2012, riders from twenty-three states enjoyed the awesome layout and incredible conditions presented by the South of the Border MX 1.4 mile track! Despite twelve straight hours on Saturday night, the crew at VS and SOBMX were able to give the brave few who raced a good track to race on despite over two inches of rain.

South of the Border MX riders enjoyed the rough track conditions and dominated many of the classes. Robby Marshall was the class of the field in the 250A and 450A class. Marshall won all four motos comfortably, winning both overalls. Other SOBMX riders in the top five of the A classes included second place rider Cody Gragg and fifth place rider Jacob Knable in the 250A. Jacob Blomfield finished second in moto two after a crash in moto one to get fourth overall and Jason Astudillo carded a fifth overall in 450A.

SOBMX’s youngest girl rider, Jamie Astudillo did us proud and kept the family bragging rights with a win in the Girls 9-11 class and a second in the 85 open class. Not to be outdone, Christina Older won both motos of the Womens class aboard her SOBMX/KTM 250SXF by huge margins!

Ryan Schafer was tops in the +30 B/C class winning both motos. Schafer also scored a fourth overall in the +35 class under incredibly muddy conditions on Sunday.

Fifteen year old Matthew Burkeen was the top SOBMX B rider finishing second in 450B stock and third in 250B stock and 450B mod. Chad Godwin finished a credible seventh in the 450B stock.

In the 250 C class SOBMX rider, Maksis Vilcins, won moto two en-route to a second overall. Maks added a win in the 250 open class to cap off an awesome day. Despite a power disadvantage on his 125, Andrew Insull scored a seventh overall in 250C stock. In the Unlimited AB class, Chase Simone started his first week at SOBMX off right with a second place finish.

Other notable finishes for the SOBMX team included Will McRacken sixth and Kyler West seventh in Schoolboy 1. The two teammates battled poor starts and each other in both motos. Our youngest rider Austin Schafer was sixth in his first ever Loretta Lynn’s qualifier.

We hope everyone enjoyed our first Loretta Lynn AMA qualifier and we will see you at the next one we hold here at South of the Border MX.
