South of the Border MX has big news to report. Multiple time AMA champion James “Bubba” Stewart Jr. has joined Yoshimura Suzuki Racing for the Supercross and Motocross racing circuits for the next few years. This comes after his abrupt release from the Joe Gibbs Racing MX Yamaha team.
Barely 24 hours after the end of the Monster Energy Supercross series in Las Vegas,
Gibbs issued a press release saying they had “mutually agreed” to part ways after only 6 months of working together. There were many rumors and Twitter clues that Stewart was unhappy with the way things were going at Gibbs Racing and his injuries prevented him from racing about half of the Supercross season.
Less than a week has passed before James has a new ride. Now Bubba Stewart will now be on the big yellow Suzuki RM-Z450 of Yoshimura Racing. He will start right away at the 2012 AMA Pro Motocross Championship race in Sacramento, California on May 19th. He will also race the upcoming Supercross season with Yoshimura.
“James is a great addition to our team,” said Don Sakakura, President of Yoshimura Motocross. “He is an amazing rider and gifted athlete and we feel very fortunate to have him join Yoshimura Suzuki. We will do everything possible to help ensure his and the team’s success. Our company has been built on racing and winning Championships and we intend to keep that tradition alive with James and his incredible skill on a motorcycle.”
James Stewart has quite a bit of skill that he brings to the Suzuki team. He is often called the “fastest man on the planet,” and has a long list of accomplishments in the motocross world. The 26-year-old Florida native has won six AMA Championships, including two AMA Supercross titles and a perfect-season AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Stewart also won a FIM World Supercross Championship, as well as two Motocross of Nations titles.
Sobmx wishes the new Stewart-Yoshimura team the best of luck in the upcoming seasons. We can’t wait to see how Bubba does on a Suzuki, and it’s surely going to be an interesting series if he can get back to his winning ways on a new ride.
